NearbyMe Privacy Policy

Effective and last updated: 4 July 2026

NearbyMe is a free directory from Taqniva connecting customers with nearby local service providers. It does not process payments or charge commissions. Browsing and contacting a provider does not require creating an account. This policy explains what NearbyMe collects and why; the Taqniva website's own Privacy Policy covers this website separately.

Information we collect

From providers who choose to list: name or business name, a phone number verified by SMS one-time code (the only number that can ever be published on a listing), service category, country, city, locality, a confirmed location, and availability status. If a listing is reported, we also keep the report reason and the reporting device's anonymous identifier.

Customers who only search and browse are not required to provide any personal information. Location access is optional and used to sort and filter results — typing a city works just as well.

Phone verification

Publishing a listing requires verifying the phone number by SMS one-time code first. The verified number — never a number simply typed into a form — is the one that gets published, which is what prevents anyone from listing a number they do not own. Reinstalling the app or switching devices does not lose access: verifying the same number again restores it.

How we use information

Public listing information lets nearby customers discover and directly contact providers by phone, SMS, or WhatsApp. A provider's confirmed location is rounded to roughly a 1 km grid before it is stored, and that rounded value — never a raw GPS fix — is the same one used both for distance sorting and for what other users can see. Reports are reviewed to catch inaccurate, duplicate, or abusive listings; a listing that receives several reports is automatically removed from public search while under review.

Service providers and sharing

NearbyMe uses Firebase (Google) for authentication, database storage, server-side validation, and app distribution, plus Firebase App Check to confirm requests come from a genuine copy of the app, and your device's or app store's location and geocoding services to determine or convert a location into coordinates. We do not use advertising SDKs, sell personal information, or share provider or customer information with data brokers.

Your choices

Providers can pause or permanently delete their listing at any time from My Listings. Customers can decline location permission and still browse by typing a city, although results will not be distance-sorted. Anyone can report a listing that appears incorrect, duplicated, or fraudulent.

Retention and security

Deleting a listing removes it from the live directory along with its duplicate-phone-number record. Report records may be retained where reasonably necessary for security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, or legal compliance. Only a redacted, public-safe copy of a listing — never its moderation history or unrounded location — is ever readable by other users, and listing changes are validated server-side against the phone number a provider has verified. No online service can guarantee absolute security.

Children

NearbyMe is not directed to children under 13, and children should not publish personal contact information through the service.

Changes and contact

We may update this policy when features, service providers, or legal requirements change. Questions about this policy or a listing can be sent to hello@taqniva.com.
